چکیده

Objective: To compare the role of musculoskeletal ultrasonography and MRI in the detection of erosions of the wrist and hand joints in Rheumatoid arthritis patients. Patients and Methods: This study included fifty patients (39 females and 11 males) with rheumatoid arthritis. They were subjected to high resolution grey scale ultrasound study and MRI examination of the clinically dominant wrist joints. Mean age was 45.3 years and mean disease duration was 6.2 years. Comparison and correlation between both modalities was done. Results: Our results showed that both modalities are comparable and closely related in the detection of erosions in hand and wrist joints in rheumatoid arthritis patients.

Ultrasonography detection of early bone erosions in the metacarpophalangeal joints of patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

OBJECTIVE To compare ultrasonography (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in their capability to detect bone erosions in early-advanced rheumatoid arthritis, where no erosion was evident on conventional radiography (X-ray). METHODS Metacarpophalangeal (MCP), radiocarpal and ulnocarpal joints of 13 patients with rheumatoid arthritis, with bone erosion that was not detected by conventional...

Low field dedicated magnetic resonance imaging in untreated rheumatoid arthritis of recent onset.

OBJECTIVE To compare a low field dedicated extremity magnetic resonance imaging system (E-MRI) with x ray and clinical examination, in the detection of inflammation and erosive lesions in wrist and metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints in newly diagnosed, untreated rheumatoid arthritis (RA). PATIENTS AND METHODS Twenty five patients (disease duration < or =1 year) and three healthy controls entere...

Detection of bone erosions in rheumatoid arthritis wrist joints with magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography and radiography

BACKGROUND The objectives of the present study were, with multidetector computed tomography (CT) as the reference method, to determine the performance of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and radiography for the detection of bone erosions in rheumatoid arthritis wrist bones, and to test whether measuring volumes of erosions on CT and MRI is reproducible and correlated to semiquantitative assessm...

The usefulness of magnetic resonance imaging of the hand and wrist in very early rheumatoid arthritis

INTRODUCTION Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used to study the hand and wrist in very early rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and the results were compared with early and established disease. METHODS Fifty-seven patients fulfilling the new American College of Rheumatology criteria for RA, 26 with very early RA (VERA), 18 with early RA (ERA), and 13 with established RA (ESTRA), (disease duration...

A comparative analysis of magnetic resonance imaging and high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography of the hand for the detection of erosion repair in rheumatoid arthritis.

OBJECTIVES To investigate whether MRI allows the detection of osteosclerosis as a sign of repair of bone erosions compared with high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) as a reference and whether the presence of osteosclerosis on HR-pQCT is linked to synovitis and osteitis on MRI. METHODS A total of 103 RA patients underwent HR-pQCT and MRI of the dominant hand. T...
